Chapter History

On April 24, 1982, Xi Delta Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, was chartered in Harford and Cecil counties.  Our 19 chapter chartering members were visionaries, who devoted themselves to the enhancement of professional and personal growth.  Xi Delta Omega has continued to champion the legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. founders’, “To be supreme in service to all mankind”.  Cultural awareness and social advocacy describes the focus of the various services Xi Delta Omega has provided to the residents of Harford and Cecil counties.


The chapter has worked diligently to stabilize the membership and ensure sound policies and procedures were developed and instituted to be an effective operating chapter.  Our current membership of 84 members has elevated our status from small to medium size. 


Xi Delta Omega has implemented every Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., administrations’ signature and impact programs; annually implementing on average 30 community activities per year.   In addition, as of 2020, Xi Delta Omega’s annual Ivy Ball fundraiser along with the support of 100 corporate and government partners has raised and awarded over $149,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors in Harford and Cecil counties.


Xi Delta Omega has received numerous international, regional and local awards and recognition throughout its history: President of the Year in 1984, 1986, 2014 and 2018; Small Chapter of the Year in 1985, and 2019; Non-Traditional Entrepreneur Program (Sunset with the Arts) in 2009; and Membership, Standards, Connection and Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) Certificates.  The chapter has also had the distinction of being the winner of the Harford County “Good Neighbor Community Service Award” (2006) and runner up in 2007.

As Xi Delta Omega chapter approaches its’ 39th chapter anniversary in 2021, the collective vision is to continue to be a chapter full of energy, innovation, and excitement while sustaining high visibility in the community.  We will continue to execute programs and activities in partnership with corporate and government entities that will enrich the Harford and Cecil County communities, while working diligently to be a Service to All Mankind.
