Juneteenth, short for June 19th, is the day set aside each year to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. It marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people in the U.S. were freed, a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is one of oldest African American holidays and officially became a federal holiday just last year on June 17, 2021.

As in previous years, many of the D9 organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council - Harford Alumni Council (NPHC-HAC) will be serving as volunteer partner organizations for the Upper Bay Juneteenth Festival hosted by the Historic Hosanna School Museum. This event will not disappoint! It is the longest-running Juneteenth celebration in our area. This day of celebration will include music, food, vendors, performances, history and more at this family-friendly event.
